Visual Data Mining (VDM)

Target:
The aim of this method course is to introduce you to concepts and methods of visual data mining and to experience them live on your own data.

This course is aimed at project managers and qualified specialists in service or industrial companies who want to understand and evaluate their data using visual data mining.

Course contents:
For effective data mining, the art and science of learning from data, it is important to involve people directly. The basic idea of visual data mining is the appropriate representation of data in intuitive graphics, which allow to get an insight into the structure of the data, to draw conclusions from the data and to interact directly with the data. Visual data mining methods can be used to identify unexpected patterns, structures, models or trends in data. This visual data exploration can thus be seen as a process for generating "hypotheses" - a data mining process.

This course provides an overview of visual data mining, visual perceptions and illusions, and the various techniques used: from classical statistical graphics to computer-based and interactive visualization techniques.

At the same time, the participants will be able to apply the presented procedures practically to sample data and, for at least half a day, to their own data. The participants thus use concrete examples to put the knowledge they have acquired into practice with modern software.

We offer this course in cooperation with our partner Statoo Consulting. Trainer is the statistician Dr. Diego Kuonen, CStat PStat CSci, founder and CEO of Statoo Consulting, and president of the Swiss Society of Statistics.

Each participant receives a printed version of the course material in English for personal use. Upon request, an evaluation license Statistica Data Miner will be made available free of charge for 30 days in order to also reproduce what has been learned in your own company.

Prerequisites:
Knowledge of Statistica software is advantageous, but not necessary.

Supplementary courses:
We offer the method courses "Efficient Data Management" (EDM) and "Data Mining in Practice" (PDM) to further deepen data management and data mining procedures. For practical implementation, we recommend the product courses "Statistica Advanced Analytics" (ANL2) and "Statistica Data Miner Quickstart" (SDM).

Execution:
All participants receive the evaluation license Statistica Data Miner with sufficient advance notice for installation on a laptop. Please bring your laptop with you to the course and don't forget to bring your own data in TXT, CSV or STA format.
